The Genussmeile 2024
During 31.8.-1.9. und 7.9.-8.9.2024 the Vienna Woods thermal region turns into the longest bar in the world - and there’s no entry fee.
“Let’s stay here and graze” is what the Lower Austrians say when they are lingering in the Vienna Woods and want to enjoy the hospitality. Not surprising at all. After all, when it comes to hiking, savouring and enjoyment, the Genussmeile in the Vienna Woods thermal region is hard to beat.
Short-stay holidaymakers traverse the longest bar in the world over a route that covers 15 km and runs along the 1st Vienna water line hiking path between Mödling and Bad Vöslau. Various wine growers provide their guests with wine, apple and pear wine, must and delicacies from the Vienna Woods. Tractor shuttles and slow trains from the railway stations to the event venue make a relaxed trip possible.
Hiking – Savouring – Enjoyment
In 2024, the Genussmeile and its culinary stalls will once again invite guests to stroll through the lush green area. The ‘delicacies’ are a very typical feature of this region. The hosts of the Lower Austrian "Wirtshauskultur" and regional producers enable connoisseurs to savour these items. A glass of wine or apple and pear wine is an absolute must on the hiking path. Please note: If you are having a glass of must, you should then toast yourself expertly with a ‘repast’. It is entirely up to you whether you keep ‘pecking’ at something at a stall until it gets dark, or whether you explore the full length of the Genussmeile. In any case, you’re guaranteed to spend several happy hours strolling through the vineyards with friends . The Genussmeile is open on Saturday and Sunday, from midday until the sun sets. You can subsequently visit the region’s wine taverns.
The right section for all tastes
Regardless of whether you’re enjoying a cosy atmosphere with family members and little children, or celebrating with friends, the Genussmeile has something for everyone:
Bad Vöslau - Sooß - Baden: “Get cosy” (section A)
This section of the Genussmeile can be discovered on foot, or by walking with a pram. The largely flat path offers idyll, cosiness, several options for ‘staying to peck at things’ with entertainment for the whole family.
Baden - Pfaffstätten - Gumpoldskirchen: “You’ll be running, whether you like it or not” (section B)
The central section along the Genussmeile is the most heavily-frequented one. In addition to its musical and culinary highlights, this section also boasts numerous stalls that offer folksy activities and delicious delicacies.
Guntramsdorf - Mödling: “Look here” (section C)
The hilliest section along the Genussmeile: Enjoy the cosy stalls, the distant views and the dreamy glimpses of the landscape of the Vienna Woods thermal region.
Arrival
The Genussmeile can be reached through the vicinity of Vienna via train, bus or car. If you want your inward and outward journeys to be both relaxed and uncomplicated, we would recommend using the public transport facilities, which can take higher capacities at the time of the event.
